The new Lexus IS range

Having debuted at the Detroit Motor Show in January of this year, the next-generation Lexus IS range has caused widespread excitement in the automobile world. With the new models scheduled to arrive in showrooms in the summer, we take a look at some standout features that are sure to interest you.

When a range boasts of its sporting prowess, it needs an athletic engine to back up its words; each IS model is fitted with a 2.5-litre unit that delivers on performance in uncompromising fashion. The base IS version combines a V6 petrol engine with six-speed automatic transmission, whilst the hybrid 300h edition has a 2.5-litre full hybrid powertrain, capable of releasing less than 100g/km of CO2. If rapid performance doesn’t convince you, the hybrid model earns exemption from road tax and the London Congestion Charge.

Matching economy with power is one of the most sought-after, and trickiest to attain, balances for automobile manufacturers, yet the Lexus IS range delivers exactly that. Its handling is also first-rate, with the 250 F Sport model boasting 18-inch alloy wheels and sports suspension with a Lateral Damping System for effortlessly smooth performance. Flicking between Normal, Eco and Sport drive modes keeps things versatile and lets you adjust the vehicle’s torque to match the road.

Performance and handling are all very well, but at Johnsons Cars we like the subtler details, like the Premium model’s wide array of colour schemes, including the aptly titled ‘Celestial Black’, and eight-way power-assisted leather seats with heating and ventilation functions. With the IS models you get a whole host of optional features, so you can build the car that fits your exact specifications without losing out on performance, economy, or good looks.
